Digital Green began working in Kenya in 2019 with our signature community video program, providing farmers with timely and actionable information to address crop pests and diseases. We work in partnership with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, the Kenya Agriculture and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO), county-level departments of extension, and other partners to ensure the sustainability and scalability of our work.
Digital Green also works with Kenya’s coffee, dairy, and horticulture cooperatives. With as many as thousands of members, well-run cooperatives can leverage their member base to achieve economies of scale to negotiate better sale prices and reduce input costs through bulk purchasing, thereby improving members’ incomes.
Recognizing the potential of cooperatives to increase farmer incomes and grow the economy, institutional donors and government agencies are investing accordingly. Digital Green leverages these investments by aligning our ag sector digitization work with national priorities to:
- improve the livelihoods and resilience of small-scale farmers
- build the Kenyan digital ecosystem
- transform the agricultural sector
